3rd Dec 2008Disused Railways: The Barnstaple to Lynton Line
This is my collection of photographs of what remains of the former Barnstaple to Lynton line. This line opened in 1898 and closed in 1935. This was the only narrow gauge line required to use mainline standard signalling in the united kingdom.
24th Jun 2009Disused Railways: The Barnstaple to Taunton Line
This line opened in 1873 and closed in 1966.
Not much of this line is left as the A361 North Devon link road now lays where the track bed was, I have photographed as much as I could. Lots of stations along this line have been lost, Ive tried to photograph anything which is left including stations and bridges.
This line ran from Barnstaple Victoria Road, via South Molton, East Anstey & Dulverton to Taunton. It was once a direct service out of North Devon but sadly no longer.
20th Jan 2009Disused Railways: The Bristol to Portishead Line
This line was opened in 1867 and closed to passengers in 1964, then was freight only until 1967.
The line was never taken up because it remained open for private freight from the Portbury docks until 1981.
Then in 2002 part of the line from Bristol to Portbury docks was reopened but only for freight and all my photographs are based on the 3 mile section which still disused to this day between the old Portbury station and former stations in Portishead.

This line opened in 1866, closed in 1959 to passengers and then finally closed to freight services in 1964 along the whole line but continued to run services as far as Heathfield until 1970.
There is still track layed down at Newton Abbot for this line but it does not go anywhere just a mile or two outside the station, all the stations and line was demolished between 1959-1970, therefore a very hard line to photograph as theres not much left.

This narrow gauge line was opened in 1925, then closed to passengers in 1965. Then the section between Meeth and Torrington was reconstructed from the narrow gauge railway to standard gauge to continue carrying clay freight trains until 1982 when it finally closed to all traffic.

This line opened in 1865, then closed in 1962 but was reopened as far as Lifton railway station for goods traffic from 1964 to 1966.

Lots more photographs planned to come soon.
8th Sep 2009Disused Railways: The Princetown Line - Yelverton to Princetown
This line opened in 1883 and closed in 1956.
This line ran from Yelverton via Dousland, Burrator and King Tor and finally reaching Princetown.
This line struggled throughout its existence.
The old trackbed has since become a popular walking route, therefore not much is left and the stations were all demolished.

23rd Jun 2009Disused Railways: The Yate to Thornbury Line
The line opened in 1872 between Yate and Thornbury, the line was badly affected by the rise of industrial development in the Patchway and Filton areas that were not accessible from the railway, but could be reached using cheaper road services to Patchway railway station.
Therefore the line closed to passengers in 1944 and then for freight only until 1966.
The stations was Yate, Iron Acton, Tytherington and then Thornbury.
Today the line itself remains in use as far as Tytherington Quarry, for the transport of stone from the Hanson plc site.
There are no remins in Thornbury, as a housing estate was built over the line & a Tesco at the former station.
